Meet the Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section

Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.

Constitution of the Governing Board

The Governing Board is drawn from parents, staff and members of the local community.  We have 3 main roles:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  2. Holding executive leaders (e.g. headteacher or other SLT members as appropriate to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

The Governing Board holds meetings on an approximately monthly basis during term time. Governors’ responsibilities are also allocated to various committees that may meet outside of the regular full Governors’ meetings and later report back to the full Board. Some committees have delegated decision making authorities.

  • Pay and Finance
  • Headteacher’s Performance Appraisal
  • Exclusions/Appeals
  • Disciplinary/Appeals

At its monthly meetings governors discuss many aspects of the life of the school including teaching and learning, pupil progress and assessment, the curriculum, attendance, premises (including health and safety), monitoring the school budget, safeguarding, exclusions, statutory requirements, policies and appraisal of staff including the Headteacher.

The Headteacher provides a termly written report and a verbal update at other meetings.

Governors are linked to cover various areas such as:

  • Safeguarding, CLA (Children Looked After)
  • Health and Safety
  • Finance
  • Teaching, learning and curriculum linked with Early Years and KS1
  • Pupil premium and SEN
  • Sport premium.

Governors aim to make termly monitoring visits to school as well as more informal ones. These visits usually focus on priorities in the school improvement plan. Areas monitored have included: maths, SEN, reading and phonics, writing, safeguarding. During these visits we have the opportunity to talk to the children about their learning and well-being.

Also curriculum leaders are invited to meetings to give presentations on their subject. This has been particularly important during the pandemic as governors have been unable to visit school in the normal way.

If you would like to know more about the work of the governors or have any questions about becoming a governor, please contact Kirstene Cutler (Co-Chair of Governors) or Rachel Aryee (Co-Chair of Governors) at  kcutler@chauldeninfants.herts.sch.uk or raryee@chauldeninfants.herts.sch.uk .
